Top SchoolTruong Hy is a tenure-track Assistant Professor and leader of HySonLab with 11 years of experience at the intersection of machine learning and mathematical foundations, currently based in San Diego. He develops graph neural networks, deep generative models for graphs and hypergraphs, and multiscale hierarchical and equivariant models to capture symmetry and hierarchy in N-body and structured systems. His work spans academia and industry—PhD-trained at the University of Chicago with postdoctoral and teaching roles at UCSD and practical ML and SRE internships at Google and Facebook—bringing both theoretical depth and production-oriented systems experience. He has a strong background in multiresolution matrix factorization and graph wavelets, signaling an emphasis on interpretable, scale-aware representations rather than black-box models alone. Known for bridging rigorous math with applied problems, he pursues research that can both advance theory and inform large-scale ML systems.
