Top SchoolTyler Cloutier is a founder and senior data engineer with 11 years of experience building real-time backend systems and data-driven products from Sunnyvale, California. He leads SpacetimeDB, a real-time backend framework and database for apps and games, after founding Clockwork Labs and prior startups focused on research publishing and developer tooling. His background blends a Johns Hopkins M.Eng. in Computer Science with hands-on roles in data science and streaming reinforcement learning systems at Machine Zone and software engineering stints at Apple and Bloomberg. Tyler moves fluidly between architecting low-latency distributed systems and shipping practical machine learning/data tooling, often turning research-grade ideas into production-ready platforms. He brings entrepreneurial grit and a track record of founding multiple companies, plus early experience in engineering and policy work that gives him a broader systems perspective. Notably, his career shows a recurring focus on real-time, high-throughput systems for interactive applications rather than conventional batch data pipelines.
