Summary
🤩
RockstarTyler Macdonald is a pragmatic engineering leader with 10 years of experience who currently serves as Director of Engineering at a high-growth proptech startup in Guelph, Ontario. He built and directed DevOps/DevTools and IT teams, drove a migration to codified Terraform and Postgres-first infrastructure, and automated CI/CD for 180+ services to eliminate laptop-deployed releases. Tyler is skilled at vendor management and cost optimization—he cut AWS spend by more than 60% while replacing brittle third-party tools with cheaper, automatable alternatives. He introduced incident management, end-to-end tracing with Istio/Jaeger, and self-service QA environments that scaled developer productivity across 40+ engineers and many interns. Comfortable writing production scraping and integration code to avoid vendor lock-in, he combines hands-on engineering with strategic process improvements to make infrastructure more reliable, observable, and maintainable.
