Top SchoolWalter Lorenzetti is a web and WebGIS specialist with 11 years of professional experience building spatial web applications and geospatial backends from Tuscany, Italy. As charter member and technical lead at multiple iterations of GIS3W since 2008, he combines hands-on backend development (Python/Django, PHP/MapScript), MapServer/OpenLayers front ends, and Linux/Apache system administration. He regularly works with spatial databases (PostGIS/PostgreSQL, MySQL) and implements OGC standards to deliver interoperable GIS solutions for public and private clients. Trained as a biologist with a PhD, he brings a research-driven, data-centric perspective to geospatial problems, blending scientific rigor with practical engineering. He is comfortable shipping end-to-end systems—server, database and map client—and has repeatedly scaled small teams into sustained GIS product efforts.
