Top SchoolWes Chow is a researcher and software engineer with 11 years of experience building startups and leading large-scale research engineering at MIT Media Lab, focused on social networks, decentralized systems, and AI. He has led teams that turn computational social science into production platforms—spanning speech systems, NLP, streaming databases, and distributed architectures—and has served as CTO or technical lead at multiple startups including Chartbeat, Cortico, and Songza. Currently working on decentralized social identity and constructive civic technologies, he blends deep systems engineering with an eye for societal impact and provenance issues around generative AI. A hands-on founder and engineer, he has a history of shipping resilient streaming and storage systems at scale and coordinating tech transfer between research and product. Notably, his background in both embedded firmware and high-throughput distributed systems gives him a rare cross-domain perspective on building robust socio-technical platforms.
