Top SchoolWhil Piavis is a Staff Software Engineer based in Denver with eight years of experience building backend-first web systems and microservices, primarily using Ruby on Rails as his daily driver alongside Go, Python, and Node. He designs and implements scalable architectures—auth, permissions, multi-tenant refactors, and GraphQL backends—while routinely breaking complex projects into clear scopes, ERDs, and idempotent migrations for million-row data moves. A pragmatic full-stack thinker, he pairs Elasticsearch geocoding and PostgreSQL/MongoDB expertise with hands-on Docker, AWS, and CI deployment experience. He has co-founded multiple startups and translated research-grade engineering discipline from his mechanical engineering background into repeatable product delivery. Colleagues rely on him for thoughtful design docs, measurable experimentation to optimize matching algorithms, and steady leadership of small distributed teams.
