Senior🎓
Top SchoolWil Black is a senior software developer and former CTO with 14+ years building web and mobile systems that bridge science and industry, currently engineering backend services in Java/Kotlin and Spring Boot while maintaining a small web consultancy focused on data, GIS, and scientific applications. His uncommon combination of summa cum laude mathematics training and an M.S. in physical oceanography informs a pragmatic, measurement-driven approach to system design, data processing, and analytics. He has led teams and projects across startups and research institutions, shipping production apps that integrate mapping, telemetry, and REST APIs using stacks from Python/Django to React and TypeScript. Comfortable both as an individual contributor and a technical leader, he excels at turning domain knowledge into polished products—from ocean models and fisheries traceability to consumer-facing marketplaces. Based on the Oregon coast, he brings a hands-on maker mentality (robots, IoT) that keeps his engineering choices practical and experiment-driven.
