Summary
Wilco Burghout is an associate professor and director of the Centre for Traffic Research at KTH with over two decades of experience in traffic modelling, simulation and analysis. He developed the MEZZO mesoscopic simulation framework and co-developed BusMezzo, tools used for large-scale and hybrid microscopic-mesoscopic studies that bridge academic research and practical transport planning. His work spans data-driven traffic state estimation, autonomous and public transport modeling, and system-wide prediction and optimisation, and he led autonomous systems simulation at VEDECOM where he helped design VIPSIM. Combining a PhD in traffic simulation with a background in computer science, he advises industry (e.g., Airmee) on R&D and brings a rare mix of scalable simulation engineering and policy-relevant research impact.
