Top SchoolWilliam Gillis is an executive director and seasoned software engineer with over a decade of experience building secure, production-grade systems for nonprofits, journalists, and startups. He singlehandedly designed and implemented the core codebase, server infrastructure, and data pipelines at a startup that scaled from pre-seed to Series A, managing millions of records across diverse datastores. Equally at home in hands‑on engineering and applied infosec, he delivers tailored security training for activists, faith communities, lawyers, journalists, and aid workers. Based in Portland, Oregon, his background in physics informs a pragmatic, data-minded approach to system architecture and incident response. Known for pragmatic craftsmanship rather than flash—“radically uncool” by his own description—he combines long-term operational ownership with a track record of shipping resilient, mission-driven software.
