Wouter Van Verre is a hardware-focused engineer with 11 years' experience designing and deploying mixed-signal sensor systems, FPGA-based platforms and embedded software across research and industry. He leads end-to-end development of ground-penetrating radar and inductive sensing systems—having taken complete responsibility for PCB design, VHDL/Verilog FPGA work and firmware—and has supported field deployments in extreme environments, including a three-month Antarctica secondment. Comfortable across C, C++ and Python, he has also optimised low-latency trading systems and worked with multi-socket Xeon servers and embedded Linux, giving him rare cross-domain fluency between high-performance software and RF/hardware engineering. He holds a PhD from the University of Manchester and combines academic rigour with practical project delivery and stakeholder-facing grant-writing experience. Notably, many of his platforms centre on Xilinx Zynq SoCs, reflecting deep hands-on expertise in SoC-driven sensor products.
