Summary
Yota Morimoto is an associate professor, composer and sound artist based in The Hague who blends academic research with adventurous practice across composition, installations and audio-visual work. With a PhD in composition (University of Birmingham) and an MMus in Sonology from the Royal Conservatory, he investigates the materiality of sound and unconventional methods for generating and transmitting sonic matter. His pieces and installations have been premiered at major festivals and museums worldwide and he has collaborated with ensembles like Amsterdam Sinfonietta and New European Ensemble. Equally fluent in commissioned sound-design for institutions and industry, his clients have included Filmmuseum Amsterdam, Hokkaido University, Shiseido and Honda, revealing a rare ability to translate experimental research into applied sonic solutions. Now holding academic posts at Waseda University and the Royal Conservatoire while maintaining a 14-year freelance composing practice, he moves between concert, public space and lab contexts with a consistently curious, cross-disciplinary approach.
