Zhongpu Xia is a Senior Engineer with nine years’ experience specializing in AI and reinforcement learning, currently shaping prediction and planning systems in Baidu’s Autonomous Driving Unit. As an early founder of Baidu’s Prediction module, he led development of multi-modal prediction, safe and learnable planning, game-theoretic algorithms, and a unified spatio-temporal planner that materially advanced Baidu’s self-driving capabilities. He holds a PhD in Machine Learning from the Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences and has published several papers cited nearly 100 times, reflecting a strong research-to-production track record. Zhongpu focuses on designing autonomous vehicles that learn from human experience—or autonomously—combining data-driven driver analysis with human-like planning. Colleagues know him for turning complex theoretical ideas into deployable systems, and for persistently pushing the boundary between academic RL and real-world driving.
