Summary
Zhuoyang Zhang (Oceanus) is an undergraduate biologist and peer mentor at UC Irvine with four years of research and mentorship experience focused on animal behavior and conservation. As an undergraduate researcher in the UCI Neuromechanics Lab, he led field studies on kangaroo rat behavioral syndromes, performed finer-scale behavioral analyses using MATLAB, DLT tracking software, and structural equation modeling, and presented findings at SICB 2023. He also supports early-stage researchers as a Peer Research Advisor, guiding freshmen and sophomores through research entry and campus resources. Earlier lab work in China gave him hands-on molecular techniques and experimental planning experience, complementing his field ecology skills. Graduating in June 2023, he plans to pursue a master’s in biostatistics and transition into healthcare data analysis, blending quantitative modeling with biological insight. An avid diver, artist, and animal-conservation volunteer seeker, he brings curiosity and interdisciplinary perspective to research and data-driven problem solving.
