Ziyi Wang is a first-year PhD student and research assistant at UC San Diego studying how SUMOylation and ubiquitination coordinate DNA replication. With nine years of research experience and a near-perfect undergraduate GPA in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Ziyi brings deep biochemical training to mechanistic questions in genome maintenance. At Dr. Huilin Zhou’s lab they combine biochemical assays and molecular biology to dissect post-translational regulation of replication factors. Based in San Diego, Ziyi has already transitioned from volunteer roles to a funded research position, demonstrating initiative and rapid growth in experimental responsibility. Outside the bench, they bridge rigorous quantitative thinking with hands-on lab expertise, making them well-suited for interdisciplinary projects in DNA repair and replication biology.
